Explaining the Subtle Spirits Bottle Code

The Prodigal Son release features the addition of a bottle code on the back of our labels. Since our barrels come from various sources and are aging at different locations we do not have the ability to number them consecutively when they are barrelled or acquired. We came up with a code to show you what you need to know.

Starting with the Subtle Spirits Original Prodigal Son, if you look on the back label there is a six-digit alphanumerical set of characters that reads 04SB21, which stands for the following:

04 = The fourth Subtle Spirits Original release
SB = Single Barrel -or- BL = Blend
21 = The year the spirit was bottled

If you are following along you’ll notice BL for Blend, which is to say Subtle Spirits will be coming out with a blend in the near future.
